Skeletal prostheses

A partial denture is a removable prosthetic restoration. It is used for large tooth gaps in cases where permanent bridges or implant-supported restorations are not possible. This prosthesis consists of a metal plate with a minimally sized surface, tines, protrusions, and clasps, and an acrylic part that replicates the patient’s gums and missing teeth. The prosthesis transfers chewing forces to the patient’s remaining teeth, which is more physiological than with fixed dentures, which transfer chewing forces primarily to soft tissues. For patients with significant tooth mobility, a splint denture is used to stabilize the teeth and delay their loss.
